Superheist, an Australian nu metal band, was formed in 1993 in Frankston, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria. The original lineup included Rod "Berger" McLeod on vocals, DW Norton on guitar, Sean "Seanheist" Pentecostes on drums, Fetah Sabawi on keyboards and samples, and Adrian Sudborough on bass. Their early style was grindcore, influenced by bands like Napalm Death, and they released their first EP, Apocalypse, in 1994. The band's breakthrough came with the release of Chrome Matrix in September 1997, which showcased a shift towards industrial death metal. In 2001, Superheist released their debut studio album, The Prize Recruit, which peaked at Number 1 of the ARIA Albums Chart. This was followed by Identical Remote Controlled Reactions in 2002, which also reached the Top 20. Notable singles from these albums include "Crank the System" and "Bullet", both of which charted in the Top 50 of the ARIA Singles Chart. The band's success continued with nominations for Kalju Tonuma as Producer of the Year and Engineer of the Year at the 2001 ARIA Music Awards, and a nomination for "A Dignified Rage" in the same categories at the 2002 awards. Superheist disbanded in February 2004 but released a posthumous album, New Rare Live, later that year. The band reformed in August 2016 and released Ghosts of the Social Dead in October of the same year, which reached number 3 on the ARIA charts and remained in the Top 10 for four weeks. Their journey continued with the release of Sidewinder in 2019 and MMXX in 2022.
