Faces do Subúrbio is a Brazilian rap rock and mangue beat group from Recife, Pernambuco, formed in 1996. The project began its activities in 1992 when breakdancers Tiger and Zé Brown, inspired by Brazilian rappers like Thaíde e DJ Hum and groups blending hip-hop with rock, started performing at local festivals such as Abril Pro Rock. In 1996, the performers incorporated musical instruments into their shows, marking the formal creation of the band. The group released its self-titled debut album, Faces do Subúrbio, in 1997 as an independent production. The album was subsequently signed and re-released by MZA Universal in 1998 with a new cover and additional tracks. The ensemble followed with its second album, Como É Triste de Olhar, in 2000, which received a nomination for a Latin Grammy Award for Best Rap Album in 2001. The band also collaborated with the song “Piercing” (1999) on the Zeca Baleiro album Vô Imbolá. In 2005, the group released the album Perito em Rima and played concerts in São Paulo and in France at the Carreau du Temple as part of the Année du Brésil en France.
