Emmet Swimming, a rock band from Fairfax, Virginia, was formed in 1991 at George Mason University. The group's name was a misspelled reference to Emmett Till, inspired by an early song they wrote. Their extensive touring and sold-out performances at local venues like Planet NOVA and TT Reynolds attracted major record label attention, leading to a deal with Epic/Sony. They released their debut album Dark When the Snow Falls in 1993, followed by Wake (1995), Arlington to Boston (1996), and Big Night Without You (1998). Emmet Swimming played at the 1998 H.O.R.D.E. tour, and shared stages with acts like Dave Matthews Band and Barenaked Ladies. They have sold over 250,000 albums and were nominated for over 10 Washington Area Music Awards (WAMMIES).
