Ponga, an American jazz group based in Seattle, was formed in 1997. The quartet consisted of Wayne Horvitz on keyboards, Bobby Previte on drums, Skerik on saxophone, and Mike Gamble on guitars. Their debut self-titled album, Ponga, released in 1999, showcased their entirely improvised performances with no overdubs. Following the release, Ponga embarked on extensive tours across North America, Europe, and Japan, garnering excellent reviews for their intuitive style reminiscent of Miles Davis' electric bands from the late 1960s and 1970s. Their subsequent releases included The Remixes in 1999, featuring notable remixers like Fila Brazillia and Amon Tobin, and Psychological, recorded live at Seattle's O.K. Hotel in 2000.
