Kicell is a Japanese band formed in 1998 by brothers Gōbun Tsujimura and Tomoharu Tsujimura in their family’s reception room, spurred by Tomoharu’s frustration after failing a university entrance exam. The duo blends folk, pop, and electronic influences into a distinctive sound marked by introspective lyrics and gentle melodies. In 2001, Kicell made their major label debut under SPEEDSTAR RECORDS, a sub-label of Victor Entertainment. In 2006, they transitioned to indie label Kakubarhythm, where they continued to evolve artistically while maintaining their DIY sensibility and intimate production style. Known for their understated performances and dreamlike soundscapes, the brothers have remained consistent collaborators, with Gōbun handling vocals and guitar, and Tomoharu on bass and arrangements. Gōbun also shares a connection with the band Quruli, having been a university classmate and former support member during the group's early years. Their release, Kantenbouki (2025), reflects Kicell’s continued commitment to poetic songwriting and analog-inspired production.
