The Rubio String Quartet, a Flemish string quartet named after English instrument maker David Rubio, was formed in Belgium in 1991. The ensemble comprised Dirk van de Velde and Dirk Van den Hauwe on violin, Marc Sonnaert on viola, and Peter Devos on cello. Their breakthrough came with the release of The Complete String Quartets Vol. 1: Quartets 1, 4 & 8 in 1996, followed by subsequent volumes in 1997 and 2001. In 2002, they recorded the complete cycle of Dmitri Shostakovich string quartets. They have also toured extensively across Europe, America, and Japan.
