Sam Shalabi, born 1964 in Tripolis, Libya, is a Canadian guitarist and oud player of Egyptian descent. After relocating to Canada at age five, he emerged in Montreal’s late‑1990s scene, collaborating with artists linked to Alien8 and Constellation Records. His solo release, On Hashish (2001), established his blend of free jazz, psychedelic rock, and Arabic motifs. Subsequent albums included Osama (2003), Eid (2008) recorded in Cairo, Music for Arabs (2014), Isis and Osiris (2016), and Shirk (2022). Shalabi also contributed to the ensemble Shalabi Effect and performed with A Silver Mt. Zion and Land of Kush.
