Ellwood was a reggae and ska band formed in the Santa Ynez Valley, California, in 2009. The group consisted of vocalist and guitarist Chuck Robertson, keyboardist and vocalist Dustin Lanker, bassist Graham Palmer, and drummer Todd Rosenberg. Their debut studio album, Lost in Transition, was recorded in a Santa Barbara studio and released on June 21, 2011, through Fat Wreck Chords. The record received positive reviews from Alternative Press, PopMatters, and Punknews.org. Following the release, the band completed a headlining tour of Europe in late 2011 and supported NOFX and Old Man Markley on a United States West Coast tour in January 2012. Although Robertson indicated plans for a follow-up album, the group entered a hiatus in late 2012 and was declared defunct in October 2020.
