Eela Craig was an Austrian rock band from Linz. Formed in 1970, the group originally consisted of Hubert Bognermayr, Willi Orthofer, Harald Zuschrader, Gerhard Englisch, Horst Waber and Heinz Gerstmair. The ensemble combined progressive rock with jazz, classical and electronic elements. Their debut studio album, Eela Craig, appeared in 1971. In 1972, the band performed with the Zurich Chamber Orchestra and appeared at several opera houses in Italy, Germany and Austria. The group signed with Virgin Records in 1975 and subsequently released the albums One Niter (1976) and Hats of Glass (1977). In 1978, the ensemble issued the Christian concept album Missa Universalis. The work premiered at the Brucknerfest in Linz and received positive media attention. Their later recordings included the albums Virgin Oiland (1980) and Hit or Miss (1988). The group performed a one-time live show in Linz in 1995. In 2020, several founding members performed Missa Universalis with the Bruckner Orchestra to mark the ensemble's 50th anniversary. Bognermayr died in 1999 and Orthofer died in 2010. The band dissolved in 1988.
