Schattenkinder, a neoclassical dark-wave band from Dresden, Germany, was founded in 2001 by Reiner J. as a studio project. The group's name, chosen for its memorability, remained unchanged. Madeleine A., who joined as the lead singer, became a permanent member of the project. After several lineup changes, Schattenkinder solidified their current formation in 2003. Their debut EP Reich der zarten Illusion was released in 2001, followed by their first full-length album Vision of Nightfall in 2004 on the label Dark Wings. The band's second album, Weisser Regen, was released in 2008 under Curzweyhl Records. Schattenkinder's music is characterized by its melancholic tone and diverse influences from world music, folk, and trip-hop, with lead vocals in multiple languages including Altgriechisch, French, English, and German. The band performed live since 2003, often accompanied by a background video show.
