Amanda Brown was born Amanda Leah Brown on 4 June 1985 in the Bronx, New York, and began singing in her local church at six years old. After graduating from Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, she attended Howard University before transferring to Baruch College to pursue a music career. Brown’s first professional break came in 2007 when she joined Alicia Keys on the As I Am tour as a background singer, later providing backing vocals for Adele and Stevie Wonder.In 2011, Brown digitally released her debut single "Dreamer" on iTunes, followed by the single "Dream On" in 2012, which she performed during her appearance on the third season of The Voice, where she finished fifth. The exposure led to chart placements on the Billboard Hot 100 and Digital Songs for "Dream On", "Stars", and "Someone Like You". Her debut studio album, Stars, was released on 19 November 2012 and received moderate airplay. In 2018 she released the album Dirty Water, preceded by the singles "Believers" and "No Good". Brown has toured extensively, including a 2016–2017 tour with Adele and a 2025 tour with Hozier.
