Indie alternative rock band Syrup16g was formed in Tokyo, Japan in 1996. Founded by Takashi Igarashi (guitar / vocals), Motoaki Satou (bass), and Daiki Nakahata (drums), the group originally featured a vocalist but he left shortly after formation. The group’s first release was a six-song demo EP, The Next Day, which was followed by several years of playing live and building up a loyal fanbase. The group signed a contract with Daizawa Records and released their debut album, Copy, in 2001. Syrup16g came to prominence with the release of their second album, coup d’Etat (2002), which was released by Columbia Records. That same year, original bassist Motoaki Satou left the group and was replaced by Maki Kitada. The group’s prolific output included the albums delayed (2002), Hell-See (2003), Mouth to Mouse (2004), and delaydead (2004). After nearly four years, the band’s next album, syrup16g, was released in 2008 just after the group announced that they’d be playing their last concert in March 2008. The group disbanded after the concert and Syrup16g’s story came to a close. However, the group surprised their fans and the music industry when they reunited six years later and released a new album, Hurt (2014), which entered the Top 10. They followed that with the albums darc (2016) and delaidback (2017). After a five year wait, Syrup16g released the album Les Misé Blue (2022), which reached Number 18 on the charts.
