ManaKana, the identical twin sisters Mana Mikura and Kana Mikura, were born on 23 February 1986 in Osaka, Osaka, Japan, and debuted as child actors in television commercials at the age of five. Their early exposure to the entertainment industry paved the way for a musical career that began with the 1997 single "Odoru Pompokolin" under Universal Music Group Japan, followed by the 1998 release "Jyaga Buttercorn-san". The duo transitioned to pop music, signing with Universal and releasing the EP Nisenichiya no Mew in 1997. Their first full-length album, Futariuta, debuted on 14 January 2009, reaching Number Twenty on the Oricon Albums Chart; the single "Inochi no uta" from the album entered Number Thirty on the singles chart. In 2010, ManaKana issued Futariuta3, with the single "Mother" peaking within Number Forty. The sisters also contributed theme songs to the anime Chibi Maruko‑chan and appeared in the Asadora series Futarikko and Dandan, reinforcing their dual presence in music and television.
