Gert & Hermien, a Dutch artist duo consisting of Gert Timmerman and Hermien van der Weide, formed in 1963. Timmerman was already known as a singer with hits like "Ik heb eerbied voor jouw grijze haren" (1959) and "Blumen Von Tahiti" (1963). The duo initially released singles under Telefunken before switching to CNR Records in 1964. Their notable albums include De Gert Timmerman Show (1967), Gert En Hermien Show No. 3 (1968), and De Gert En Hermien Show No. 5 - Brandend Zand (1970). In the early 1970s, they achieved significant chart success with singles like "Shalalie shalala" (1972) and albums such as Daarom Ben Ik Blij (1974), which peaked at number 19. The duo transitioned to religious music in the mid-1970s, releasing several well-received Christian albums. In the 1990s, they returned to secular music with Sony but faced limited success. In 1997, Hermien suffered a heart attack during a performance and decided to quit. Hermien died on May 23, 2003, at the age of 59, from kidney disease. Gert died of pancreatic cancer in 2017 at the age of 82. His life and career with Hermien were later documented in The Gert & Hermien Story, released in 2020.
