Dry & Heavy is a Japanese dub band formed in 1991 by Shigemoto Nanao and Takeshi Akimoto. The group aimed to recreate the roots dub sound of 1960s and 1970s Jamaica. Initially part of Tokyo's Audio Active collective, they expanded in 1995 with additional musicians, including two vocalists, and released their self-titled debut album, Dry & Heavy, in 1997. This success led to dual signings with Japanese and English labels, followed by the release of One Punch (1998). In 2000, they collaborated on the song "New Way, New Life" for Asian Dub Foundation's album Community Music, welcomed guitarist Keichi Rikitake, and released Full Contact (2000) and a remix album with Jamaican artist King Jammy titled King Jammy meets Dry and Heavy in the Jaws of the Tiger (2000). In 2001, bassist Takeshi Akimoto left the group. Other notable albums include From Creation (2002) and Dub Creation (2002). After a hiatus, Dry & Heavy returned with the studio album In Time in 2015.
