Moreira da Silva was a legendary Brazilian singer-songwriter and the definitive creator of the samba de breque style. Born in 1902, he began his career in the early 1930s under the mentorship of Ismael Silva, debuting on Odeon Records. He achieved early fame with the hit "Arrasta a sandália" (1932) and the classic "Implorar" (1934). Known for his sharp wit and "malandro" persona, he influenced generations of artists, notably collaborating with Chico Buarque on the landmark Ópera do malandro (1979). His prolific discography culminated in his final recording, Os 3 malandros in concert (1995), completed when he was 93. Da Silva remained a central figure in Rio de Janeiro's musical landscape until his death in 2000.
