Trunkline is the union of Madben and Yann Lean.
A French duo crafting raw and groovy techno with textures and rhythmic gimmicks. Their
music is a tribute to the energy of underground raves, blending nostalgia with modern
experimentation. Deeply inspired by the 90’s rave sound, the two French producers deliver
techno based on lively writing and spontaneity. With Trunkline, they rediscover the
distinctive grain of techno only achieved with analogue machines.
On stage, Trunkline plays a 100% hardware live set up which allows for jazzlike
improvisations and interactions with the audience. They use Moog and Kilpatrick Audio
modular synthesizers, Elektron and Roland drum machines and a custom-made Bastl
Instruments master filter. The on-the-fly sequencing part is done by Arturia's Beatstep Pro.
No computer! Everything is plugged into a 24 channel Midas analogue console which
allows them to use many other machines.
On the dancefloor, the duo also performs a four-handed dj set, with formidable energy.
Trunkline's first ep's were released on their eponymous label, then few other ep's, singles
and remixes were released on Planet Rhythm, Materia, Gynoid, KR/LF. They were also
commissioned by Carl Cox and Nicole Moudaber to remix their track « See you next
Tuesday » on Mood records label. Trunkline's productions have been regularly playlisted
by prestigious artists such as Ben Klock, Ritchie Hawtin, Dave Clarke or Laurent Garnier.
In 2022, "Mercy", Trunkline's first album was released on the Belgian label Arkham Audio.
In 2024, Trunkline released a new LP « Vibrator » on French Skryptöm imprint, after a
successfull « Work dat ass » EP on the same label few months earlier. They also did a
remix for Insolate on Arkham audio label.
2026 : A new EP, « Hex », to come in June on Ben Sims' Hardgroove label and a slate of
ready-to-sign demos. Trunkline's momentum show no sign of slowing down !
