Tom Gunnar Krause, born on July 5, 1934 in Helsinki, Finland, was a Finnish operatic baritone. He initially studied medicine but shifted to vocal studies at the Vienna Music Academy from 1956 to 1959. Krause debuted at the Berlin Opera in 1959. His repertoire spanned over 50 roles, including works by Mozart, Verdi, and Wagner. He performed at major opera houses worldwide and festivals such as Bayreuth, Salzburg, Edinburgh, Glyndebourne, Savonlinna, and Tanglewood. Krause collaborated with notable artists like Plácido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti, Jessye Norman, and conductors including Leonard Bernstein, Herbert von Karajan, and Eugene Ormandy. He was awarded the Order of the Finnish Lion in 1990 and received an honorary Doctorate of Music from Helsinki University in 2003. Krause died on December 6, 2013.
