The Smurfs are a music project that was created in Belgium in 1977. The idea is based on the comic series "Les Schtroumpfs" by Pierre Culliford, known as Peyo. The project was realized musically by the Dutch producer Pierre Kartner, also known as Vader Abraham. With the song "t Smurfenlied", the project reached number one in the Dutch charts in 1977. The German version "Das Lied der Schlümpfe" climbed to the top of the German singles charts in 1978 and remained in the charts for 48 weeks. The music project The Smurfs is not a traditional band with permanent members. The voices of the Smurfs are produced by technical manipulation, with various singers involved. The music is produced and released by various labels, including K-tel and Universal Music. The genre of Smurfs music is a mixture of pop, children's songs and parodies. Well-known albums include Tekkno ist cool - Vol. 1 (1995), which reached number one in the German album charts, as well as Megaparty - Vol. 2 (1995) and Alles Banane! - Vol. 3 (1996), which also achieved high chart positions. Overall, The Smurfs achieve several chart successes in various countries. In Germany, they reached number nine in the singles charts with "Schlumpfen Cowboy Joe" in 1995. In Austria, the same song reached number three. In Great Britain, "I've Got A Little Puppy " reached number four in the singles charts in 1996.
