Oathean is a South Korean black metal band from Seoul that formed in 1993. The ensemble was originally founded under the name Odin with the goal of introducing extreme metal to the South Korean music scene. The group is famous for a musical style that incorporates folk metal and traditional Korean instruments such as the haegeum and daegeum. Their lyrics explore themes of sadness and depression, though they are not categorized as depressive suicidal black metal. Their discography includes the studio recordings The Eyes of Tremendous Sorrow (1998), Ten Days in Lachrymation (2001), Fading Away into the Grave of Nothingness (2004), and Regarding All the Sadness of the World (2008). Their later work includes the eponymous studio album Oathean (2010) and the recording The Endless Pain and Darkness (2021).
