Jay Beckenstein, born May 14, 1951 in Long Island, New York, is an American saxophonist, composer, and producer. He began playing piano at age five and received his first saxophone at seven. Beckenstein founded the band Spyro Gyra after graduating from university. Beckenstein collaborated with Dream Theater, playing saxophone solos on "Another Day" from Images and Words (1992) and "Through Her Eyes" from Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory (1999). In 2000, he released his first solo album, Eye Contact, which charted at number 23 on the Top Contemporary Jazz Albums.
