Mary Beats Jane was a Swedish metal band formed in 1991 in Gothenburg by drummer Peter Asp, guitarists Magnus Nyberg and Urban Olsson, and bassist Tommy Apelquist. The band name, “Mary Beats Jane,” reportedly came from arguments between girlfriends of the members. After vocalist Peter Dolving joined, they recorded the demo Hulk/Dead (1992), which gained attention in the local skater scene. Their self-titled debut album was released in 1994 on the major label Universal, featuring a blend of thrash metal influenced by bands such as Machine Head alongside 1970s hard rock and punk elements, and it earned them a Swedish Grammis award. Their second album Locust was released in 1997 and reflected a shift toward a more grunge-influenced sound. The band disbanded in 1998, after which Peter Dolving went on to join The Haunted.
