Wilma Charlene Burgess was born in Orlando, Florida, on June 11, 1939 and was an American country singer. After studying physical education at Stetson University, she moved to Nashville. She attracted the attention of producer Owen Bradley, who signed her to Decca. Her breakthrough came with the 1965 single "Baby", which peaked at number 7 on the Billboard C&W charts, followed by "Don't Touch Me" (number 12) and "Misty Blue" (number 4). Throughout the 1960s and early 1970s she released albums such as Tear Time, recorded a duet with Bud Logan on "Wake Me Into Love", and worked with United Artists, Shannon, and RCA. Her final studio effort, Could I Have This Dance, marked the end of her recording career. Burgess passed away on August 26, 2003 in Nashville after a heart attack.
