Craw were an American post-hardcore band from Cleveland, Ohio, that formed in 1987. The ensemble was founded by the guitarists David McClelland and Rockie Brockway, the bassist Chris Apanius, the vocalist Joe McTighe, and the drummer Lori Davis and are famous for their rhythmically complex riffs and for recording their first three studio albums with Steve Albini. In late 1990, Neil Chastain replaced Davis on drums, and following the departure of Apanius and Chastain in the mid-1990s, the group added the bassist Zak Dieringer and the drummer Will Scharf. Their discography includes the debut studio recording craw (1994), followed by Lost Nation Road (1994) and Map, Monitor, Surge (1997). During the late 1990s, they toured North America frequently and shared bills with ensembles including The Jesus Lizard, Melvins, and Neurosis. Their final studio recording, Bodies for Strontium 90 (2002), was released through Hydra Head Records. The band reunited for two concerts in 2016 featuring all seven members from their studio recordings following a limited-edition vinyl reissue of their first three albums.
