Commandantes, a communist punk rock band from Bielefeld, Germany, was formed in 2002. The group consisted of Klaus (formerly of Rotators and Schiesser), Bernd (formerly of Schiesser and The Nymphomaniacs), Lahs (formerly of Flugs Vonstatten), Horst (formerly of Se Schrillos), and Bernd Schrillo (also formerly of Se Schrillos). Their first significant release was the sampler Viva La Revolution, which celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Sozialistische Jugend Deutschlands. The band's debut album, Lieder für die Arbeiterklasse, released in 2004 under Mad Butcher Records, featured covers of old worker and antifascist songs reimagined in a punk rock/Oi! style. In 2006, their third album, Für Brot und Freiheit, included versions of classic songs like "Der heimliche Aufmarsch" and "Die Internationale". The band underwent several lineup changes, including the departure of key member Horst, before ultimately disbanding in 2008.
