The Crystal Set is an Australian indie rock group formed in March 1983 in Sydney by Russell Kilbey on bass and lead vocals, Phillip Maher on guitar and vocals, Davey Ray Moor on keyboards and backing vocals, and Charles Ratcliffe on drums. They released their first single "A Drop in the Ocean" (1984) independently. By May 1985, they signed to Red Eye Records. Their debut album From Now On (1987) was produced by Steve Kilbey. The group disbanded at the end of 1988 but reformed in May 1989 with Luke Blackburn on bass guitar and backing vocals. Their second album Almost Pure (1991) was released under Red Eye Records and Polydor Records, featuring the singles "She Spits Out Stars" (1990) and "Thrive" (1991). The Crystal Set disbanded at the end of 1991. The band reformed in 2025 and released the single "Critical Mass!" (2026).
