Supreme Dicks is an American experimental rock group formed in 1984 by students Jon Shere and Stuart Morris at Hampshire College. The core lineup eventually included Daniel Oxenberg, Mark Hansen, Steve Shavel, and Jim Spring. The band gained a cult following and famously performed in place of Dinosaur Jr. at the CBGB club in 1988. Supreme Dicks released their debut album, The Unexamined Life, in 1993 on Homestead Records, followed by the 1994 compilation Working Man's Dick. In 1996, the group issued their acclaimed studio album The Emotional Plague and the EP This Is Not a Dick. The band has performed or toured with acts such as Neutral Milk Hotel, Kurt Vile, and Bonnie Prince Billy. A four-disc retrospective box set, Breathing and Not Breathing, was released on the Jagjaguwar label on October 18, 2011. The group reunited in 2012 for performances at South by Southwest and a tour of Europe in 2013, continuing to play shows in Los Angeles.
