Guido Schiefen is a German cellist and professor born on April 12, 1968, in Hennef. He began his career studying under Alwin Bauer at the Musikhochschule Köln and received a prize at the Jugend musiziert competition in 1980. Schiefen received a scholarship from the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes in 1988. He won a prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in 1990 and received the Förderpreis of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in 1992. Schiefen has performed internationally as a soloist and chamber musician with artists including Saschko Gawriloff and Lars Vogt. He has collaborated with ensembles including the Märkl-Quartett and the Auryn Quartett and serves as the artistic director of the Rhein-Sieg Kammermusikfestival. Schiefen has served as a professor at the Hochschule Luzern Musik since 2008. His recording career included the studio recording Cello-Solosuiten by the composer Johann Sebastian Bach released on the label Arte Nova.
