Eric Dolphy Mingus, born on July 8, 1964, in New York City, is an American blues and jazz singer and composer. The son of bassist Charles Mingus and Judith Starkey, he was named after musician Eric Dolphy. Mingus grew up in Upstate New York, studied vocal performance and bass at the Berklee College of Music in 1985, and toured as a vocalist with Bobby McFerrin and Carla Bley. After relocating to London in 1994, he formed a duo with trumpeter Jim Dvorak, recording the album This Isn't Sex (1999). Mingus subsequently taught vocal improvisation in Berlin and Kopenhagen, and collaborated with the Mingus Big Band, Hubert Sumlin, Elvis Costello, and Nick Cave. His discography includes his debut solo album Um...Er...Uh (2000), followed by Too many Bulletts ... not Enough Soul (2002), Healin' Howl (2007), and Langston Hughes: The Dream Keeper (2017) with David Amram. In 2018, he toured Europe with Elliott Sharp's project Fourth Blood Moon.
