Sanerivi Sagala, born 24 August 1974 in New Zealand, is best known by his stage name Dei Hamo and works as a rapper, singer, producer and director. Growing up in Māngere, Auckland, he first encountered hip‑hop while attending Aorere College and soon began writing songs daily, honing his craft in the local scene. In 2004 he released the single "We Gon' Ride", which stayed at Number 1 on the New Zealand chart for five consecutive weeks, earned platinum certification, and entered the Australian top 40; the track also launched the single "To Tha Floor" (2005). His debut album, First Edition (2005), followed in 2005 and produced singles such as "This Is My Life" and "Cry Again" featuring Tim Finn, the latter incorporating lyrics from Split Enz’s "I Hope I Never". Throughout his career Dei Hamo collaborated with prominent New Zealand artists-including Boh Runga, Tha Feelstyle and DJ Sammy B-and supported international acts such as The Black Eyed Peas and Busta Rhymes on tour. In addition to recording, he directed music videos under his real name, Sani Sagala, expanding his influence in the industry. Dei Hamo’s work has earned multiple chart successes and industry awards, cementing his role as a significant figure in New Zealand rap.
