Pierre Roger Lambo Sandjo, known professionally as Lapiro de Mbanga, was a Cameroonian singer born on April 7, 1957. He began his career in West Africa, recording in Nigeria and Benin, before quickly moving to Gabon where he recorded the popular song “Pas d'argent, no love”. Upon returning to Cameroon in 1985, he composed and recorded socially conscious songs such as “No Make Erreur”. In 2008, the singer was imprisoned after criticizing Cameroonian President Paul Biya in the song “Constitution constipée”. Following his release on April 8, 2011, the musician returned to the stage, performing in France, Belgium, Spain, Canada, and the United States. He and his family were granted asylum in the United States in September 2012. He died of cancer in Buffalo, New York, on March 16, 2014.
