Ostzonensuppenwürfelmachenkrebs, a German indie rock band from Hamburg, was formed in the late 1980s. The name Ostzonensuppenwürfelmachenkrebs is derived from a headline "Ostzonen-Suppenwürfel bringen Krebs" from an early edition of Bild-Zeitung, published on August 2nd, 1952. In 1989, the band released their first demo tape. Their debut album, Für Zuhause, was released in 1990 by L’age d’or and featured both English and German lyrics. The track "Blues" from their second album, Absolut nicht frei (1992), gained significant airplay on MTV. In 1994, they released an instrumental album titled Keinseier. The band's subsequent releases included the EP Leichte Teile, produced by Christian Mevs of Slime, and the compilation CD Leichte Teile, Kleiner Rock (1998). Following a short tour in support of this release, Ostzonensuppenwürfelmachenkrebs disbanded due to personal reasons. The band reunited in 2023 for a tour.
