Coprófago is a Chilean technical death-metal group formed in Santiago in June 1993 by Sebastián Vergara, Pablo Solari, Pablo Álvarez, and Ignacio Suit. The ensemble emerged while its founding members were still in school. The band’s first demo sold well and attracted music magazine attention, though critiques were lukewarm. After the integration of bassist Felipe Castro and drummer Marcelo Ruiz, Coprófago released its debut album, Images of Despair (1999), followed by Genesis (2000), which gained popularity in Chile and prompted a European release on the French label Sekhmet. A period of inactivity followed when Ruiz and Álvarez moved to Sweden, but the group returned in 2003 to record the album Unorthodox Creative Criteria, released in July 2005. Coprófago resurfaced in 2022 with the single “Genesis 22” (2022) and has performed alongside acts such as Krisiun and Criminal.
