Jacob Sacks is an American jazz pianist and composer born in 1977 in Monroe, Michigan. He began piano lessons at the age of five and turned to jazz and improvisation during his youth. After receiving a Presidential Scholar in the Arts scholarship in 1995 to study under Garry Dial at the Manhattan School of Music, he graduated in 1998 and became a finalist in the Thelonious Monk competition in 1999. That same year, he released his debut quintet album, Region (1999). His subsequent recordings include the collaborative albums Two Miles a Day (2007) and Fishes (2018), as well as the solo piano album Montreal (2020). He also recorded the tribute album Imagination: The Music of Joe Raposo (2008) in a duo with singer Yoon Sun Choi, with whom he performed at Carnegie Hall. His career includes work with the band Landlines and collaborations with musicians such as Dan Weiss and Thomas Morgan.
