Alternative 4 is a British musical group formed in 2011 by Duncan Patterson. The band's name derived from the Anathema album Alternative 4, which was largely written by Patterson and inspired by Leslie Watkins' book Alternative 3. Alternative 4 signed with Avantgarde Music in 2011, releasing their debut album The Brink later that year. In March 2012, they secured a long-term deal with German label Prophecy Productions, who re-released The Brink. Their second album, The Obscurants, was released in 2014 and featured remixes from various artists including Ars Arcanum and VÆV. The band has produced notable music videos such as "False Light" directed by Luís Rolo and "Underlooked" and "Lifeline", both directed by Mehdi Messouci.
