Conton Candy formed in Tokyo’s Nakano ward on 19 June 2018, initially as a school‑band in the light music club of Musashikō High School. Vocalist and guitarist Tsumugi Ishii, bassist Kaede Hane, and drummer Ayaka Akatsuki-twins sister pair-later joined, while original singer Ririka Yamamoto departed in March 2021. The trio debuted with the EP PURE on 10 November 2021, sold exclusively through Tower Records, and that same year earned first place in both the artist and song categories of the Eggs annual ranking. The single "Fuzzy Navel" released 26 April 2023 rose to the top of Billboard Japan’s Heatseekers Songs and TikTok Weekly Top 20 for two consecutive weeks, earning a nomination for the 2023 TikTok Trend Award and a live performance on Music Station 2‑hour SP in November. In October 2024 they released their first full album melt pop and followed it with the major solo tour Conton Candy ONEMAN TOUR 2024 “melt pop”. The band appeared on The First Take in February 2025, performing "Fuzzy Navel" and the anime ending "Futsuu". Continual releases-including singles "Motto" (31 January 2024) and "Rookies" (4 March 2026)-and first major album SUPPIN, were released on 20 May 2026, underscoring Conton Candy’s sustained presence in the Japanese J‑pop scene.
