Beherit is a Finnish black metal band from Rovaniemi, formed in 1989 by Nuclear Holocausto Vengeance, also known as Marko Laiho, Daemon Fornication, also known as Jari Vaarala, and Sodomatic Slaughter, also known as Jari Pirinen. The group released three demos in 1990: Seventh Blasphemy, Morbid Rehearsals, and Demonomancy, and gained a reputation for its live performances. In 1991, the compilation album The Oath of Black Blood was released. In 1993, the band released its most influential album, Drawing Down the Moon. After the group disbanded in 1994, Laiho continued Beherit as a solo project, releasing two dark ambient albums: H418ov21.C (1994) and Electric Doom Synthesis (1996). The band reformed in 2008 with original members Laiho and Pirinen, alongside new members Ancient Corpse Desekrator and Abyss. Its album Engram was released in 2009, marking its first black metal album in 14 years. Subsequent releases include the albums Bardo Exist (2020) and WBRRR (2023).
