Charlie Dore was born on October 25, 1956 in Middlesbrough, England. She is a British singer, songwriter and actress who is considered a representative of the singer-songwriter genre. She began her first musical activities in the British pop and folk scene in the late 1970s. In 1979, she released the single "Pilot of the Airwaves", which received international attention and reached chart positions in several countries. The song climbed to number 13 in the UK and became a radio hit in the USA. Her debut album Where to Now was released in 1981, establishing her mixture of pop, folk and narrative songwriting. Further albums followed with Things Change (1990), Cuckoo Hill (2006) and Dark Matter (2009). Milk Roulette was released in 2015, which had a stronger acoustic influence. Dark Matter (Reissue/Expanded) follows in 2017 in a new edition. In 2020, she released Whatever Happened to Love?, which shows her later phase with introspective lyrics.
