Stephen Gauci, born in 1966 in New York City, is an American saxophonist known for his contributions to jazz. He began his career as a musician in the 1980s, focusing on straight-ahead jazz before transitioning to avant-garde jazz in the 1990s. Gauci collaborated with notable artists such as Michael Bisio, Avram Fefer, and Nels Cline during this period. In 2004, he released Long Night Waiting with Michael Bisio and Jay Rosen on Cadence Jazz Records. His discography includes albums like Substratum and The Basso Continuo, featuring Nate Wooley and two bassists, Ingebrigt Håker Flaten and Michael Bisio. Gauci has also performed at notable events such as the Villach Jazz Festival in June 2009. His later works include Soundlift Berlin-New York and Live at Scholes Street Studio, both released in 2022.
