Dorsal Atlântica is a Brazilian thrash metal band founded in Rio de Janeiro in 1981 by Carlos Lopes and his brother Cláudio Lopes. Initially known as Ness, they released their first demo in 1982 and a split album titled Ultimatum with Metalmorphose in 1985. In 1986, the band released their debut album Antes do fim. Notable releases included Dividir & conquistar (1988), Searching for the Light (1990), and Musical Guide from Stellium (1992). They performed with bands such as Venom, Exciter, Testament, Kreator, and Cradle of Filth. After releasing albums including Alea jacta est (1994), Straight (1996), and the live album Terrorism Alive (1999), the band disbanded in 2001 due to internal conflicts. They reunited in 2012 and released albums such as 2012 (2012), Imperium (2014), Canudos (2017), and Pandemia (2021).
