The Boom was a Japanese rock group formed in 1986 by friends from Yamanashi Prefecture, namely Kazufumi Miyazawa on vocals, Takashi Kobayashi on guitar, Yamakawa Hiromasa on bass, and Tochigi Takao on drums. They first performed as a hokoten street band in Tokyo before signing with Sony. Their debut single, "Kimi wa TV‑kko", issued on 1989, which preceded the release of their first album, A Peacetime Boom, on the same year. The band followed it with albums such as Sairen no Ohisama (1989), JAPANESKA (1990), and D.E.M.O. (1992). The 1993 single "Shima Uta", sold 1.5 million copies and earned the group a spot on the Kōhaku Uta Gassen that same year. Subsequent releases-included THE BOOM2 (1997), No Control (1999), LOVIBE (2000), and Hyakkei (2004).
