Mako Ishino is a Japanese singer and actress from Ashiya born in 1961. Ishino achieved recognition after winning the talent-search show Star Tanjō!. Their debut recording, the single “Ōkami nanka kowaku nai” (1978), earned a newcomer award at the 20th Japan Record Awards. Their discography includes the debut album Smile (1978) and the albums MAKO II (1978) and MAKO III (1979). The artist achieved their highest chart position with the single “Hāto de shōbu” (1980), which reached number 15 on the Oricon charts. Their recording “Haru La! La! La!” (1980) became a significant commercial success, selling 160,000 copies. Ishino briefly retired from the music industry in 1981 to marry Tsuyoshi Nagabuchi but returned in 1983. Their return to music included the single “Meguri ai” (1985) and the album Saffron (1985). As an actress, Ishino appeared in the film Kugatsu no sora (1978) and the television series Inochi (1986). Subsequent recordings include the albums Truth (2003) and Life Is Beautiful (2010).
