Since their emergence at the dawn of the 1990s, this trio of sonic explorers has never ceased to question their genre allegiance. Yet they are still one of the leaders of the excellent post-rock label Trill Jockey, and could be labelled "retro-futurist math rock", for Trans Am like to mix references to synthetic pop and Krautrock, with the possibilities of today's electro. Their music is demanding yet minimalist, and their extensive discography (some ten albums in twenty years) culminates in 2000 with the album Red Line, and begins a new decade in 2010 with the album Thing.
