Piroska Anday, also known as Rosette Anday, born on December 22, 1899 or 1903, in Budapest, Hungary, was an opera singer known for her alto and mezzo-soprano roles. She began her musical education at the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest at age 12 and made her breakthrough in 1921, performing as a guest at the Wiener Staatsoper in Carmen. Anday quickly rose to prominence, performing notable roles such as Cherubino in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro and Dorabella in Così fan tutte. Her repertoire expanded to include significant parts like Aida in Verdi's opera. She sang the role of Dalila in Samson et Dalila. Despite facing challenges due to her Jewish heritage during World War II, including her dismissal from the Wiener Staatsoper in 1940, she resumed her career post-war at the Theater an der Wien. She passed away on September 18, 1977, in Pressbaum.
