Alain Pierre, born on January 3, 1948, in Schaerbeek, Brussels, Belgium, was a Belgian composer of film music who began his musical journey at the Jesuit Saint‑Michel College, where he studied organ and Gregorian notation. His breakthrough came in 1969 when he founded the studio Hysteresis, installing cutting‑edge synthesizers that enabled him to compose soundtracks for short films such as Gu (1972) and Flap Flap Flap (1973). His first full‑length release, Des Morts (1979), established him within the European electronic scene. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, he collaborated with filmmakers including Chantal Akerman, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, and George Lucas, contributing to scores that blended synthetic soundscapes with traditional orchestration. He passed away on February 14, 2024, from cancer.
