Diablerie, formed in late 1997 in Vantaa, Finland, as Shadeclad Poetry by vocalist Henri Villberg and guitarist Kimmo Tukiainen, emerged from the remnants of two black metal groups. The band originally played symphonic black metal before adopting a style fusing industrial metal, avant-garde metal, and techno elements. In 1999, the group renamed themselves to Diablerie after their song “Diablerie 3-D”, subsequently relocating their seat to Helsinki. Their first release was the 1999 demo Astro, followed by the debut studio album Seraphyde, released in 2001 through Avantgarde Music. After a hiatus in the early 2000s, the band was reactivated in 2005 by Villberg and guitarist Tomi Ullgrén. They re-emerged with the EP Reactivation in 2007 through Sonic Supernova, followed by the self-released demo Demo I/MMVIII in 2008, and the EP Transition in 2012. In 2017, the group released the second studio album, The Catalyst Vol. 1: Control, through Primitive Reaction Records.
