Bele Vrane, a Yugoslav rock band formed in Ljubljana in 1966, gained attention with their The Mamas & the Papas-influenced sound. Their breakthrough came in 1967 when they won the first Slovenian Guitar Festival and released their debut EP Presenečenja in 1968. In the same year, they won the Opatija Festival with "Mesto mladih", marking one of the first instances of a rock band winning at a pop festival in Yugoslavia. Bele Vrane performed extensively across Yugoslavia and Italy. The band released their self-titled album on audio cassette in 1971, which included covers of songs by Mary Hopkin, Bob Dylan and The Band, and Jefferson Airplane. They disbanded in 1973 after performing at the Slovenska popevka festival with "Letalovlak".
