Junoon, a Pakistani Sufi rock band, was formed in 1990 by Salman Ahmad Ali and initially featured vocalist Ali Azmat, keyboardist Nusrat Hussain, and bassist Brian O'Connell. Born in Lahore, Pakistan, and raised in Tappan, New York, Ahmad left Vital Signs to form Junoon with the three musicians. The group's self-titled debut album Junoon was released in 1991. Following the departure of Hussain, O'Connell joined as bassist for their second album Talaash, released in 1993. The band gained significant popularity with albums like Inquilaab (1996) and Azadi (1997), achieving a nationwide fan following and an international record deal. Junoon continued to release successful albums including Parvaaz (1999) and Andaz (2001). The band celebrated their 25th anniversary with the album Door in 2016. Throughout their career, Junoon sold over 30 million records worldwide.
