Chase & Status

British production duo Chase & Status—Saul Milton and Will Kennard—established themselves among the UK’s leading club acts, blending drum & bass, dubstep and jungle with sounds from grime, dancehall and hip-hop. They first gained wider attention in 2005 with “Duppy Man,” a reworking of Capleton’s dancehall track “Who Dem.” Their inventive productions drew support from artists including Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, Pendulum and Skream. A run of singles followed, including “Hurt You” / “Sell Me Your Soul,” “Take Me Away” / “Judgement (Informer),” “Pieces,” featuring Plan B and sampling Black Box’s “Ride on Time,” and “Against All Odds,” featuring Kano. “Take Me Away” topped dance and club charts in 2008, the year the duo released their debut album, More Than Alot. It reached number 2 on the UK Dance Chart and brought their drum & bass foundations to a wider audience, with guest appearances from Takura, Yolanda, Five O, Digga, Nneka and Jenna G. A reworking of “Eastern Jam” with Snoop Dogg became “Snoop Dogg Millionaire.” In 2009, “End Credits,” their collaboration with Plan B from the film Harry Brown, reached number 9 in the UK Singles Chart. “Let You Go,” featuring Mali, and “Hypest Hype,” with Tempa T, followed ahead of their second album, No More Idols (2011), which reached number 2 in the UK. Brand New Machine (2013) also peaked at number 2, while leading the UK Dance Albums Chart. In 2015, the duo released a new grime track each week; the series became the London Bars EP, issued on limited-edition 12-inch vinyl for Record Store Day in 2016. Their later albums moved between styles: Tribe (2017) revisited drum & bass with touches of rock, garage and punk; RTRN II JUNGLE (2019) drew on 1990s jungle and featured General Levy and Cutty Ranks; and What Came Before (2022) brought their early rave influences together with guests including Popcaan and Unknown T. In November 2023, they released the mixtape 2 Ruff Vol. 1, which reached number 4 in the UK and featured artists including Stefflon Don on “Selecta” and Clementine Douglas on “Say the Word.” The duo won the 2024 BRIT Award for Producer of the Year, and their collaboration with Stormzy, “BACKBONE,” became their first UK Number 1 single that August. They continued releasing singles in 2026, including “Through The Pain” with Pozer, “Doin It More” with Blade Brown, “Homework” with Lancey Foux, “Disgruntled” with J Hus and IRAH, “Gone Too Far” with Debbie, and “Essa Ta Quente” with Skrillex. Their seventh studio album, Generic Everything, was released on October 9, 2026.
