Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys, an American bluegrass band led by Bill Monroe, was formed in 1938 following the dissolution of the Monroe Brothers. The group initially performed as The Kentuckians in Little Rock, Arkansas, before transforming into the Blue Grass Boys and moving to Atlanta, Georgia, then Asheville, North Carolina. Their breakthrough came with an appearance on the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville on October 28, 1939, where their rendition of "Muleskinner Blues" was well-received. Notable musicians who joined the band included Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs in 1945, significantly influencing the group's sound with Scruggs' three-finger picking technique on the banjo. The band continued to evolve with frequent personnel changes until Monroe's death in 1996, leading to the band's disbandment.
